How Much Should I Tip?

Hey, when you're out dining or getting some service, you know the drill - it's all about showing some love by leaving a tip. But man, figuring out the tip amount can be a real head-scratcher sometimes because the bill doesn't include the tip.

In most cases you have to figure out 15 to 20 percent of the total amount but without sales tax. So, to help you out with this whole tipping thing, I've put together this list of everyday services and what you should be tossing their way as a tip.

Why should I tip people?

Tipping is basically a way to say "thanks" to people who provide services to you. It helps them earn a fair income (especially if they are on minimum wage), encourages great service, is an acknowledgement of good effort and it's just what most folks do. Also, gig workers (think Uber / taxi drivers, delivery folks, etc.) rely heavily on tips as a significant part of their income.

Plus, it's kind of a social thing, like saying "hey, I appreciate you!" So, yeah, it's a cool way to show some love and support to service workers.

A tip is like that extra bit of cash we give to people who hook us up with good service, kind of like a thank-you bonus. We still pay the usual price for whatever we're getting, but this extra money is a way to show a little love to the folks who actually serve us, not just the big bosses who own the place. You know, like when we're at our favorite spots like restaurants, cafes, or bars. We tip the bartender who mixes our drinks, the barista who crafts our caffeine kick, and the servers who keep our plates full. And don't forget about hotels and hostels! We might slip a few bucks to the porter who lugs our bags, the housekeepers who make our rooms sparkle, or the room service crew who bring up our late-night munchies or that celebratory champagne.

How to use this Tipping Guide

First things first, punch in the total bill amount, and that can include everything like taxes or extra stuff they threw on there.

Next, pick your desired tip percentage, you know, depending on how great the service was. You can go anywhere from 10% to 25% or even more if you're feeling generous!

Last but not least, tell it how many of us are chipping in for this bill bonanza.

And just like magic, once you've done all that, this tipping tool will spit out the exact dollar amount you should tip. Plus, it'll show you the grand total, including the bill and your tip. Super handy, right?
